Create WhatsApp templates in Twilio

WhatsApp channel templates need to have a specific format. To ensure that all FROGED templates are correct and verified, they must first be created and approved in the Twilio account associated with the company's WhatsApp number. Below is an explanation of how to do this quickly and easily:

1. Select the Twilio account related to the FROGED workspace phone number under "View subaccounts".

2. Go to the "Messaging" section > "Content Template Builder" and click on the "Create new" button in the upper right corner.

3. Create a new template and configure the general information:
  • Add a title
  • Select the type of content for the template. The types of templates we work with in FROGED are four: Text (basic text message), Media (allows sending multimedia content like images along with the text), Quick-Reply (includes interactive buttons that allow quick responses to a predefined message), and Call-To-Action (includes buttons that enable specific actions, such as opening a webpage or making a phone call directly).
  • Choose the language

4. Configure the template content according to the type selected previously. In the body of the template, you can add variables by clicking the "+ Add variable" button to later assign a FROGED attribute. Each variable added has a value to identify it: {{1}}, {{2}}, {{3}}, {{4}}...

5. Add sample data to the content variables (if any). When clicking "Save and submit for WhatsApp approval" from Twilio, it is recommended to add sample data for the variables in the content (for example, the variables could be the client's name and agent, such as {{1}} = Mary, {{2}} = Jane). Including examples of the variables makes it easier to get the template approved.

6. Select the template category before submitting for review: marketing or utility. At this stage, it is recommended to check the "Allow WhatsApp to recategorize this template" box. This way, WhatsApp can modify the category if it is incorrect. Not checking this box could result in the template being rejected.

Once these steps are completed, the new template can be viewed in the main panel of “Content Template Builder”. Each template has notifications based on its review status and usage: while under review, a notice will appear indicating that it is still being reviewed and cannot be used until verified.

If the template is approved, the “WhatsApp business initiated” notices appear in green. Otherwise, if the notice appears in red, it means the template has not been approved and cannot be used in FROGED.

Once the templates appear as approved on the Twilio dashboard, they will also appear in FROGED in the first step for creating a WhatsApp message template. This way, all the templates created in FROGED are approved for use in business communications.
